Sympathy, Empathy or Compassion
A very important part of behavioural management of any young person – is you knowing the rules, and having an understanding of the game! If you are having to manage high emotions from a young person – then you need to know how those emotions work to be able to deal with them successfully. So understanding how emotions work, what causes them and why your young person is acting the way they are – are key subjects for you to master. Once you know these things you can have more empathy for the young person – because you will understand why they are as they are and you should have a greater insight as to what the direction of care is needed for your young person. I would urge all carers to treat these children, as children of trauma – not just naughty children.
And part of that education and understanding of the basic principles of how emotions work – is the understanding of empathy, compassion and sympathy. This video will help with that.
